New Rory Gallagher Release - 30 Years Later
Back Page Magazine Gets The Story from Dónal Gallagher
CHATSWORTH, CA, August 13, 2011 /Music PR News/ -- Rory Gallagher's brother Dónal recently spoke with Back Page Magazine's Todd Whitesel, revealing the behind-the-scenes story of an album that almost never was.
That record, called "Notes From San Francisco," is finally available, featuring all the original studio tracks, 3 bonus cuts, and an extra live CD recorded in 1979 at San Francisco's Old Waldorf. None of the material has been previously released -- great news for fans of Rory Gallagher, who can never seem to get enough of the Irish artist's music.
Dónal tells Back Page Magazine about the studio mixing sessions with star producer Elliot Mazer which ultimately were cut short due to Rory's desire to have a rawer, more live sound, and how the Sex Pistols impressed Rory with their live act. Dónal Gallagher also supplied Back Page Magazine with a few never-before-seen rare and candid photos.
Rory Gallagher died in 1995 at the young age of 47, but left a lasting legacy and an extensive collection of celebrated recordings. Among musicians themselves, Rory Gallagher is considered one of the top blues-rock guitarists of all time, and his live performances are as memorable as those of Bruce Springsteen. Jimi Hendrix, when asked what it's like being the best guitarist in the world purportedly said: "I dunno. Why don't you ask Rory Gallagher?"
Back Page Magazine editor Jeff Cazanov was overjoyed to get exclusive insight on the musician: "I love when I hear that huge numbers of new, young music fans are still discovering Rory Gallagher and his music. It helps that other musicians like Slash, The Edge, Shooter Jennings, Joe Bonamassa - people like that - continue to celebrate him and cite him as an influence."
Back Page Magazine, a new music and entertainment website has a goal of keeping up with legendary classic musicians and songwriters, and has already featured articles on Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Delaney Bramlett, Harry Chapin, and Bill Ward of Black Sabbath.
Cazanov says Back Page Magazine will soon be releasing new interviews with Johnny Winter, Martha Davis of the Motels, and the ever-outspoken Jesse Ventura.
